RNLI Open Day – Calshot – Sunday 3rd July 2011

Following a fine day of dance at Marchwood Fete (and a most excellent evening of good food and drink hosted by Mike & Rebecca), everyone happily made their way to Calshot for an exciting afternoon dancing by the sea.

The sun shone very brightly as everyone arrived, parked and jingled their way to the small arena space which was ready for our arrival.

We were booked for two slots throughout the afternoon so once ready, and the dances were agreed, the Meddlars were announced over the loudspeaker and off we went.

Despite there being many other attractions we drew a good audience who were most appreciative and supportive.

With huge smiles and enthusiasm we danced our way through the first slot after which we rushed to the ice cream van for cooling cones of creamy goodness. We then found places to sit and relax while watching the public enjoy this excellent event.

In what seemed like a very short time we headed back to the arena for our second slot. Again the crowds had gathered and when our audience participation dance was announced there was no shortage of willing dancers, including the RNLI mascot which Sue managed to guide round without too much trouble.

We finished to great applause which is always good and much appreciated and were offered tea for those who could stay (also much appreciated).

Overall, this was a most successful day not only for the Meddlars but more for the RNLI who had obviously put a good deal of thought and effort into the event.

It was excellent to see so many people enjoying themselves in the sunshine for such a good cause.
